About the Race

Democrats in Illinois’ 8th Congressional District who watch broadcast television and cable need to see why Dan Tully is the best candidate to stand up for our values in Washington starting in early February.

Dan Tully is an Army Reserve Major with the integrity we need now in Washington. Dan resigned from a civil service job in Washington in protest of Trump’s illegal power grabs.

He is the only candidate with a detailed plan to hold this administration accountable, including:

  • Reining in ICE
  • Banning self-pardons
  • Prosecuting Hegseth and other cabinet members who carry out illegal orders
  • Making the Justice department fully independent

Dan will tackle MAGA corruption head on so we can focus on what matters – lowering costs for working people by cracking down on corporate greed.

Meet Dan Tully

A veteran, attorney, and former civil servant, Dan Tully is running for Congress because our constitution, our freedom, and our democracy are threatened by a president who doesn’t think the rules apply to him and a Republican Congress that refuses to stand up to him.

Dan’s parents were Cook County Hospital nurses who instilled in him the values of keeping your word and serving others. Their lessons, love, and support helped propel Dan from the western suburbs where he was raised along a path of graduating from Northwestern and the University of Chicago, earning his law degree from Stanford, and joining the military.

Dan served seven and a half years as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army Reserve, including over three and a half years on active duty. While deployed to Iraq, Dan advised commanders on operations to defeat ISIS. At Fort Bragg, Dan served in the headquarters of the Green Berets to facilitate intelligence investigations and supported the 82nd Airborne Division.

Dan assisted in the Army’s efforts to accelerate planning for large-scale combat operations at Army Futures Command, and he also served in the military’s U.S. Indo Pacific Command, where he focused on supporting allies in the face of China’s aggression. Later, while working as a civil servant at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Dan continued the work of countering China’s influence in foreign markets.

When Donald Trump was elected and began bending the knee to dictators like Vladimir Putin, Dan took a stand by leaving the administration that no longer enabled him to honor the oath he swore to support and defend our nation. Dan believes Trump has betrayed the oath of office and is a danger to our country, our economy, and our democratic way of life.

Now, Dan is running for Congress to defend our values, protect the rule of law, build economic opportunity, save our healthcare and retirement benefits, and champion liberty, freedom, and democracy. As our next congressman, Dan will continue to serve our country by helping to stop Donald Trump’s assault on our democracy, and make our government work for the people once more.
